Thank you Sir, spoke with Steve Young thru email today at Steves Guns and he said the 357 mag cowboy was only made 2 years and he believes the receiver on those rifles are solid brass, he said the 45lc version is still made but he believes it is a plated version, had lots of great info, looking forward to purchasing some sights from him.

If it is steel a magnet will stick. If brass it won't.

Well the magnet trick shows its brass, doesn't stick to the receiver or the forend cap or butt plate :)

I have been told by Rossi that they are actually steel with brass plateing. Also read another post somewhere, that someone used a magnet and it would not stick. The owner then called Rossi and was told that the reciever was actually stainless steel that had been brass plated. I put an order in back in March for a brass one and wound up buying a blued version last month. I checked my supply source and they still don't have any brass ones available. Looks like a good reason to get one later down the line. I also wanted a case colored one, another good reason for another fine gun down the line. Your gun sure is a beauty and It may actually be brass because Rossi told me they will not build the brass gun in another caliber than 45 LC unless it is a limited additional with over 1000 made.
