My 44 mag is very sensitive to over all length. I thought that mine were to long but that made it worse. I then made them longer and that was the ticket. I load them to around 1.70. Might be worth a try.

Tony,
I did a little fiddling around with it. Polishing parts, etc. What finally made this rifle work was the lighter ejector spring. It will cycle anything at this point.

I went that route also. It works well with the bullet style I've been using.

Wyowind,
I know I'm late to your response, but thanks for detailing your experience.
I'm definitely not sending mine to Rossi now.
Anyway, I had the exact same problem with bullets being shaved and/or jamming on the ejector cutout of the chamber.
After 6 months of dealing with it, I think I found the problem with mine.
My lifter was coming up too high and all 357 ammo with OAL between 1.565"-1.580" would either get jammed or get a piece shaved off as it went into the chamber.
I fashioned some shims ranging from .020-.050"
After super gluing each of them to the edge of the lifter where it contacts the right cartridge guide (to lessen it's lift) I found that .035 worked like a charm.
Now I just have to find someone to build up a weld on that side of the lifter, then file it down to the same height.
I know it will fix my problem, maybe you could try the same.
