Still On Backorder

Post by BadMonk »

Last October, there was a buzz on this board about finally being able to order parts without sending the weapon into Repair. So, I called and ordered a bunch of 'extra' parts - just in case. Now, the forearm tip on my 92 was getting banged up from the bags of rocks that the range uses for sand bags. I figured may as well order a new tip and find another range. The tip was on backorder. The other parts arrived quickly and I forgot about the backorder. Good transaction. Today, I called to order a forearm tip and the rep reminded me that I ordered one last October and they're still waiting for the part from Brazil. So, he left my order in place so I don't loose my place in line and requested one from Repair (no guarantee Repair will cough one up). It's hard to believe that a simple part like a band can be on backorder for nearly a year. That kind of support isn't support at all.

While I've had two very good interactions with Customer Service, this backorder situation takes the shine off them.

I hate to say it, but it may only get worse as Rossi is in turmoil at the moment. I'm hoping someone local will start making parts for us at least they would be sustainable on supplying us without customs import time frames and costs and such. Considering they hardly supplied parts before their fiscal woes and now hard to say the future that is left. I'm pessimistic though I do hope our braztech friends can pull it together.

Just checking the price of their stock, 1.16 BR (29 cents USD), it remains in the gutter. I truly don't understand how they stay in business. I don't think they have any money to produce spares. Everything they make must go on a new firearm to be sold. They don't have the funds to stock spares.

As a reference; on 12/29/2014, they sat at 5.28 BR (1.38 USD). That is a 78% decrease through the first 9 months of the year. They were actually at this bottom level at the end of July, so 7 months.

It will be interesting to see what the 2016 Catalog offers. It may not offer anything but a blank page.

Is this still over the safety issue on the pistols? I really wish they would just circle the wagons and get back to what made their bread and butter sales for years. For a limited time just make the stuff that sells like the basics for the revolvers, the 92 series of pistols (maybe a compact again since all things compact are selling red hot still) and of course amp up the R92 production since as far as I can tell they still sell like hotcakes. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few hot sellers but either way dump the new stuff that's not working or not selling.

It might be but I think it is more a general lack of trust in the products overall. Spare parts, online without the CS contact is one way of restoring trust in the products. Firearms generally are a simple piece of machinery and the way a simple machine stands the test of time is having replacement parts readily available. If they cannot support the firearms now, they durn sure are not going to support them 20 years from now. Somewhere inside of me is a voice telling me that the product line is not a real good investment.

My Marlin 444T was built in 1972 and every part except the barrel and receiver are available online. The same could be said for my various Marlins built in the '50s. I own there Rio Grande's that were bought inside the last half decade and from what I'm hearing, not a single part is available. That creates a certain distrust of buying anything from the manufacturer.

That's what I'm thinking too. The part on backorder for a year is a simple single band for my lever action rifle. I own one of their revolvers too (that went back to Repair a month after buying it because the barrel was a mess). The weapons are decent but it wouldn't be cool to have them go useless in the near future because a necessary part is nowhere to be found from Braztech. Time to sell the rifle and revolver?

And therein lies the rub... if you are happy with them, "no". I look at it this way. I'm going to run them until they fail. When or if they do, I will part them out on ebay and gunbroker. The sum of the parts are worth more than the firearm and that goes for anything wearing a Rossi or Taurus roll stamp because parts are not to be had.

I like my 92s and I honestly do not see a reason why they shouldn't last a good long while.
I AM slightly concerned with respect to the materials and quality standards of the parts.
I probably need to get in a spares order but I do wonder a mite if putting out the money on spares makes sense compared to keeping my eye out for a complete gun at a good price that could be used as spares?

I think your statement about a good deal on a complete gun makes sense. I've considered that very thing concerning the RG4570B.
