What kind of accuracy to expect?

Post by Maximumbob54 »

I have a 20" .44 magnum M92. I've shot it plenty at both the 25 and 50 yard ranges but not the 100 yard range only because to be honest I guess I need new glasses as I can't hardly keep focus on the front sight and see anything of the target. I can fold the padded rifle case a couple of times and use it for a rest and at both ranges keep at worst a 2 -3 inch group with all of my cast bullet reloads. But at 100 yards what accuracy should I be expecting when I do get my sorry behind out running this like a real rifle?

When it was fairly new and my eyes were better, my 24" 1892 in 357 could do minute of 5 gal bucket at over 400 paces using a small tree for a rest. One ranging shot, reloaded the tube full and proceeded to hit that bucket until the gun was empty.

This report might not be valid for your consideration as my rifle is the scout scoped version. The load is a max for my 300-grain TLC432-300-RF sized at .430, pushed with 20.2-grains of Lil'Gun for 1635 FPS. Looking at the targets I have scored digitally, the average of the 5-shot groups at 100-yards are 1.952".

I've done no load "tuning" just calculated a max load with QuickLoad, pressure trace verified the load, and called it good enough for big game hunting. Just went out and put it to use.

Bob, Mine did this pretty easily. I know I could do better, but I have gotten a couple of RioGrands, 45-70 and 30-30 and have been figuring out how to load for them lately.
