Some range time/357
Been awhile since I've put in some range time with the M92/357. Spending too much time on pistols, but those are fun too. I've had the itch lately to find a lever gun in 44mag or 45-70 since hog activity on the farm has stepped up. I have some other choices in the safe....223, 30-30, 300blk....but there's something more appealing about using the M92.
I brought the 357 with me saturday while out doing chores, & made some time to set up a couple of steel targets on my little "range". I set up at pretty much my max open sights range(90 yds)& since I changed the front sights it has definitely improved my sight picture. Even though the M92 cycles 357 just fine the rifle feels like it was made with .38 DNA. So much fun ringing steel at that distance without a scope.
It amazes me that Hickok45 hits pretty often at the same distance with a pistol!

LAX bulk .38 special 158gr. I've had good service from several of LAX's in-house cartridges.....38, 9mm, & 40.

Re: Some range time/357
Hey Jeff,
Good lookin rifle and good shootin also.
I like that front sight.
I picked up a couple boxes of the 357 mag HSM bear loads a while back, 180 gr hard cast.
Not shot any yet, but they cycle through the rossi just fine.
Ive cycled them slow and fast to try and make them jam, but they feed everytime.

Re: Some range time/357
I envy you guys that can step out on your property and shoot. I've got to drive 50 miles to shoot on BLM land or 3 miles to an indoor range. I don't like shooting with strangers so I hardly ever got to the range.
I retired last year, I'm hoping to move as soon as my son graduates HS.
Thanks for sharing OP

The guy that built my cabin,(Henry Clay McQueen, distant cousin to Steve McQueen) before he sold it he told me he would shoot deer in one of the fields 200 yds away through the kitchen window.
I believe my Wife would put a frying pan across the back of my head if I tried that.

He hits with subcompact pistols at that range. I think I saw him hit the gong with a Colt Mustang. But for normal folks thats good off-hand open sights rifle shooting.lonestarjeff wrote:

The 357 I've cycled through mine has all been JHP. They slow cycle just fine, but get a bit sticky if I step it up. Great fun to shoot, though. I like what I'm reading about those bear loads. Never came across them before.Mad Trapper wrote:.....I picked up a couple boxes of the 357 mag HSM bear loads a while back, 180 gr hard cast.........Not shot any yet, but they cycle through the rossi just fine.
