Boyds 92 Stock/Forend

Post by Deleted User 900 »

Checking to see if anyone has used the Boyds Finished Rossi 92 Stock/Forend set with success. I have a 357 20" round barrel with cased frame that needs furniture after the factory set was ruined in a refinish attempt, and a subsequent attempt to fit a PGW set ended equally bad. TIA!

This is the Boyd's product that I've been really pondering.

If I could change anything and had it to do all over again, my R92s would have the straight butt stock.

Ranch Dog, that's the critter there I'm looking at.

This is for the Mrs. 92, who has a much shorter LOP and arthritic shoulders, so the flat buttplate would make it simpler to shorten and fit a recoil pad ... which I can actually do fairly well. The hang up for me has been fitting the PGW to the frame, so if this is a nearly drop in for the action I'd be excited. I guess that's what I'm trying to figure out is how much inletting folks felt needing doing even with this finished product.

That standard butt could be useful and easier on the shoulder

I would love to have a flat butt plate like the one from Boyd's. That stock one is so slick it slide all over my torso and never seems to really fit, anywhere. If that flat one came about 2" longer, that would be even better!

Called Boyd's for more info on the forend and that wasn't particularly useful. The tube channel is 3/4", while the 38/357 tube itself OD is 9/16 ish. That seems like a lot of slop.

I bought both the stock and forend. The only problem is that it is at home and I am in Afghanistan! I have only seen it on Skype but it looks good.
I was going to cut the old stock and install a spacer and recoil pad but I could not get myself to do it. Once I get home in April, I have that to install and a Marbles tang sight. My Rossi M92 44 mag is by far my favorite rifle and the change to the stock should put it that much further in the lead.
