Should I do my upgrades before I shoot it the first time R92

Well another Rossi R92 followed me home. This one is the 16 inch barrel with big loop in .38 / .357
My goal is to get most of my stuff in either .38 or .45 long colt.
I have all the stuff here to change the ejector spring think I should shoot it a few times before I change it.
I also have tru oil on hand. Do it now or wait?

Your more patient than I am. My husband took my 92 from the FFL registration counter at our gun club, straight to the gun cleaning bench next to the range bays. A quick cleaning and then we put 200 rounds through it.

Shoot it first. I have made the mistake of spending money that I did not need to spend because I did not shoot the gun first and only listened to the "professionals" on the internet.

Try it first. May need nothing and if it does you'll have a baseline.

Good advice ! If you happen to have a piece of 1/4 inch doweling you ought
to take it with you. Helps to push the cartridge in the mag. An unsharpened
pencil will work in a pinch. Saves on the finger and chipped nails.

Then you can snip about three inches off the mag spring and it will become
easier to load. Clean the mag tube, you may or may not want to replace the
plastic follower with a metal one, most do.

Shoot before doing mods, but clean well before shooting. Many come gummed up.

I took mine right out of the box and shot it with no cleaning. I put a few hundred rounds thru it before slicking the action. I cleaned it then. Since then, I have shot about 3k and haven't cleaned it again.

This is how mine shot at 25 and 50 right out of the box before sight correction, of course.

I took mine, since it is cold out and windy right now I just replaced a few things to make it the way I wanted. Now waiting on the weather.
Replaced the magazine follower with a SS one. Replaced the safety with Steve's safety plug. Put swivel sling studs on it. I bought the one that you drill and tap the front barrel band. Looks great and more like I like it.

since I'm on my second 24" R92, and now waiting for a 24" SS 44 mag to arrive, I have already ordered replacement springs an mag follower. Regardless, I'll give it a good cleaning and knock off any high/sharp edges off stuff and then blast away for awhile. Mostly so I'll have a bunch of fire formed cases to use for loading up my fire lapping rounds.
