I've been going through the parts bins and getting a few things sorted out that have been sitting as components for some time. I've got a couple three builds laid out that have all the components more or less ready to go. I'm shortest on sighting systems, probably next shortest on handguards or barrels. Then it is probably small upgrade parts like QD end plates, extended charging handles and ambi safeties.

For a while now I've had a 12.7x42 with a 18" Satern barrel. This gun is built on a mil-spec Stag lower using a Satern big bore upper, a Midwest Industries handguard, a SLR Rifleworks adjustable gas block, a Rifle stock and recoil system, a Guntech tanker brake (gen1), and mounting a 1-6 scope using a Aero Precison mount plus Magpul offset back up sights. For CA compliance I've got a grip wrap or a finned grip on the thing.

A year ago or so I picked up a Bear Creek upper in the same caliber with a 16" carbine gas system barrel pre assembled. I replaced the muzzle device with a Guntech tanker brake gen2.

I finally got around to assembling a lower for this upper. Matrix mil-spec lower, mil-spec lower parts kit, mil-spec carbine recoil system and buffer extension tube, Magpul MOE fixed carbine stock. Put a BCM single point sling end plate on the receiver. Used a Strike Industries simple grip for CA compliance in the build. I will need to replace the mil-spec safety with an ambi safety. Even if I wasn't in CA I've come to really like having an ambi safety on my ARs but here in CA with the stupid finned grips to keep the gun 'featureless' an ambi safety is a requirement. No sights or scope at present but I'll be fixing that eventually.

Getting ready for a second .308 Aeroprecision M5 build. This one should be a 18" fluted barrel.

12.7x42 (50 Beowulf) builds. Need to get some sights or an optic on the second one.

Added 6-24x50 scopes w/ Warne Rings to the Mega MATEN builds.
Added a 5-20x44 w/Aero Precision extended mount to the Aero Precision M5 build with the 18" barrel.
Added a 5-20x44 using the Warne Rings to the 24" fluted Grendel build. This combination doesn't quite fit as far forward as I'd like on the small frame receiver but it is functional.

These are the Bushnell scopes from a year ago or more.
I'm down to 1 30mm scope from Bushnell and 1 1" scope from Nikon that aren't mounted at present.
I've got a set of 1" Warne QD rings for the AR style guns, a couple sets of Warne medium QD 30mm rings and a set of 1" 'high' Leupold rings.

I think I might have gotten away with LOW rings instead of MEDIUM but at least for the moment I'm going to let it be as is. It seems to come to the shoulder and eye pretty well as is.
So this gun is a .308 heavy barrel Howa 'Tactical' wearing a Hogue rubberized stock.
It came with a threaded muzzle and a thread protector. I replaced the thread protector with a Black River Tactical Linear compensator for 30 caliber. This is a cute little can about the size of a standard A2 flash hider that has no external vents but has a neat little vortex generator inside the comp. Apparently they are now calling this a Covert Comp although it was labeled 'Tactical Linear Compensator' where I first saw it.

Ordinarily I am NOT a fan of rubber coated stocks. I simply don't find them appealing. They typically have a chemical smell and they ain't pretty. This gun was priced right and it looked pretty good and in a moment of weakness I bought it. I ended up putting a 6-24x50 Bushnell on the rifle using a steel Warne Picatinny rail and medium Warne 30mm QD Maxima rings. (Might have gotten away with low rings.)

The gun has been sitting in a corner and I'm in a rather dry part of the world. I picked it up today and had to wipe it down a couple times to get the dust off the silly Hogue rubber stock. Tomorrow once I'm sure it's dried out good I'll slip it into a gun sock so I don't have to go through that again next month. I dread dropping this puppy in the sandy dirt out here.

I've got parts for another build or three but I'm pretty sure I'll end up with a functional gun without sights so I'm sort of on the back burner with those for the moment.

I should have pictures of the 18" Fluted Aero Precision M5 up soon.
I haven't really bought much this past year, mostly been assembling my backlog of AR parts.

The Mega MATEN carbine build above mentions it was built with a Mil-Spec carbine stock.
I replaced that a few weeks ago with a Magpul MOE carbine stock. Sometime between Thanksgiving and New Years Day I found a good deal on Magpul MOE carbine stocks and decided to complete this build with one instead of the MagPul Fixed Carbine or the Mil-Spec. That's a simple slip off and slip on sort of upgrade.
Just to be safe, here in Kalifornia, it isn't a bad idea to take the upper off first and then swap the stocks.

Pic soon:
