One of my bucket list rifles!

Post by Ranch Dog »

Just put a rifle that has been on my life long bucket list into service! A Remington 600 chambered in 35 Remington.

There was only 3029 manufactured out of the 94K+ of these rifles made. After 50 years, no telling how many are actually still in service. I haven't been wanting to pay the money they demand but recently found one that met what I was looking for. This afternoon I replaced the problematic 600 trigger/safety with a Timney drop in which is a 700 improved and adjustable trigger/safety. I also replaced the original nylon rib and trigger guard with the Heritage Arms aluminum rib and and steel guard. The rifle weighs in at 6# flat. I will add a scope for load work and have a XS Ghost Ring on order but it is at least two months out. I will shoot my TLC359-190-RF cast bullet from the rifle.

Beautiful! Makes me remember the 600 I had in 350 magnum. That little carbine would knock the snot out of me!

I know of a ranch near me that the whole family shoots the 600 chambered in 6.5 Rem Mag. You could not get them to shoot anything else.

I use a carbine chambered for .358 Winchester. A great deal of the time, read mostly, I shoot hand loads that are at or near, .35 Rem. velocities. Great fun, accurate and easy on the support system (me). I frequently practice with loads made up from 158 gr. handgun boolitz or Hornady 180 gr. SSH boolitz, often bought as blems. My hunting load is a 200 gr. Rem. spire point.

I've long admired the little Rem. 600 carbines, tho never owned one. Should be much fun and quite effective for you, RD. I look forward to your results with the cast boolitz.

I was just looking at that cartridge and that rifle combo not too long ago.

I think I'll stick to 6.5x55 for the 6.5s. I'm sort of wanting a nice scoped hunting rifle in that caliber to go with my M48 although 6.5-06 sounds slightly interesting.
