Tell me about Lil' Gun?

Post by Archer »

Like the topic title says, what can you tell me about Lil' Gun?
It was one of the powders listed for .50 Beowulf for bullets under 400 grains.
I hear it might be good for .44 Mag and .357 as well as .30 Carbine?

Comments, Observations, Opinions?

I use it in the:
  • 218 Bee
  • 25-20 Win
  • 30 Carbine
  • 32-20 Win
  • 38 Spl
  • 357 Mag
  • 41 Mag
  • 44 Mag
  • 45 Colt
  • 454 Casull
  • 480 Ruger
I see better groups and slightly higher velocities than I do with H110. I have switched a couple of these back to H110 to use up my remaining stock of that powder, but will only keep Lil'Gun on the shelf in the future.

.357 for sure and therefore .44 I'd bet.

I don't have much experience with it but so far, it produces great velocity and accuracy in my 357 with less pressure. I just started experimenting with 296 and got less velocity and slightly bulged cases vs the Lil'gun brass.

Is LilGun 'easier' to use than H110? Capacity sensitive, temperature sensitive, reduction sensitive, magnum primers needed, etc?

I've never found H110 hard to work with, my interest is in MOA & velocity performance. I use standard primers with the Lil'Gun.

Wow. I know Lil'Gun isn't new, I wonder why I've not heard much about it. It sounds pretty versatile for handgun use... :(

I think when it hit the shelves it was marketed as a great powder for 410 shotgun loads. It didn't take long for its horizons to get expanded. I've never tried it mostly because I've always had good results from H110 and WW 296. I'm hoping to expand my horizons this season and try some in the 45 Colt and maybe the 357 since I'm also trying some new to me bullets in both. I've got H110 loads that I'm happy with so I plan to run some Lil' gun along side and see what I find.

Agreed.

I have some and I've loaded with it but I don't have much experience.

I'm sure the correlation has been made but .410 powders and straight wall revolver cartridges generally work well together.

Think about it.
