44 Special & Trail Boss

Post by dek1165 »

Evening All,
Sorry if this has been asked before but have any of you used Trail Boss for 44 Special loads using 200 grain RNFP?
I've been using Vectan BA9 1/2 which has been giving me 1000 fps - 5.6 grains - from my 16" barrel and the results have been pretty good and consistent. I don't think I'll get near that with TB but would welcome any tips or advice you may be able to offer. No hunting, just blatting away at either 25 or 100 yards

The brass is Magtech 44 Special and I'll be using CCI primers.

Cheers

I assume that you have found hodgdonreloading.com. I buy hodgdon/IMR/Winchester powders almost exclusively because the reloading data is so easy to access on the website. You'll likely find at least some of the data you're looking for there.

It is very easy to figure out the max load of Trail Boss for any bullet/cartridge combination by following Hodgdon's instructions, items one through three. Max is always at a 100% density and the starting load is a 70%. On the incremental loads, work with 80% and 90%.

Thanks Gentlemen,
I couldn't find that PDF at all, probably a senior moment, but it might work for a 303 with cast heads too. I feel a plan coming together......

cheers
