.44 hot loads in 065

Post by Magnum .44 »

Hey there. Can a m92/r92/065 run full magnum/keith loads without flying to bits?

Our pigs are incredibly hard here in Australia and I really would like to leave nothing to chance on dear at 150 yards. I would like to push 2000fps. Is this safe in a rossi?

What kind of pressure is it going to take to generate 2K FPS?

When you said Keith loads, were you referring to hot cast SWC loads that he advocated ? 2,000 fps seems kind of high end for both accuracy and leading with cast lead projos. Maybe linotype recipe would hold up, but I don't have that experience.

You could try to push 2000 fps but I wouldn't do it with anything heavier than a 210gr bullet. 240 or 250 gr Keith loads aren't going to touch that.

Speer says you can do it. I was able to get 1825 with 26.5gr H110 and a 210 gr Gold Dot in my 20" Rossi.

I shot a 350lb boar with a 350 gr cast bullet going 1500 fps from a 45-70 and it dropped like a sack. A 210 gr bullet going 2000 fps would have more muzzle energy but I don't think it's necessary.

Thanks Guys

yes it seems that 1800 fps is more realistic and still very damaging out 125 yards

I think I'll buy up a heap of S&B and hang on to the brass

Further to previous. I will be reloading FTX projectiles eventually. Likely with H110. My next question was: are slow burning powders better for rifles?

H110 is a very good magnum powder. I shoot 23 grains behind 240 gr jacketed or 265 gr cast projectiles

In my 45 Colt I 'm running between 22 and 23 grains of H110 and 300 gr cast with gas check. The only complaint comes from my shoulder :D .
