45 colt load

Post by rich9347 »

Does anyone have any data showing H110 powder in loading 45 colt with 240 gr mag bullet? I loaded some test shells quite awhile back and used 19gr, H110 and can't find the source of this load. any help will be appreciated. Thanks

IF you have one of the manuals that list loads for Ruger Blackhawk ONLY you might have some luck.
Given the narrow operating range of H110 and the fact that any load with that powder in .45 Colt is unlikely to be spec I am not sure I'd care to be mucking about with it blind very much.

It can be touchy in low pressure loads. I cannot help on this. Hope someone can.

Thanks, I found out yesterday not to try and use h110. I just had a temporary loss of memory I guess. Will use what the manual says.

Since I was looking for some .45-70 data for a different thread I checked the same 3 manuals for the data you initially requested.

No dice for the Lyman or Hornady manuals and while Sierra listed H110 under the modern heavy revolver section it did so ONLY for the 300 grain JSP.

I use 20 grains of H-110 under a 300 grain Hornady XTP. It works great in my Rossi 92, but I wouldn't use it in any of my Uberti handguns. Blue Dot also works good in .45 Colt.
Am I paranoid? Nope, I'm heavily armed!

I found the Sierra handbook 240 grain, h110 load for Thomson contender ONLY. Starting at 21.7 grains GAVE 1150 fps. You would be safer using 2400 or Imr 4227.

Nosler shows Ruger Only type load data for their 250HP .451" bullet. I have used that data with 2400 and Lil Gun in a Puma 92 45Colt. They are very stout. Be very careful.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but it might be close enough to give you some ideas. I load a Lee 452-255RF (weighs 256.5 with the lube on it) with 18.8 gr of H110. I will say up front that this isn't my favorite 45 Colt load, but it works well in my Rossi. A little too stout for my taste in my Ruger NMBH, and there is a good bit of soot involved regardless of what you shoot them in.
