Hard to beat a Marlin 1895 in 45-70, especially if you handload. I started off with one, and now have three 1895's (in just the last two years)-a 26" CB, a 22" standard, and a 18" stainless Guide Gun. Definitely spend the time and effort to find a "JM" Marlin. The 45-70 round will do ANYTHING you need it to do--mild to wild; powder puff loads to bear killers. Factory ammo seems to be readily available, at least around here.
